Ki Breathing In the Far East practitioners of Ki breathing have been enjoying the positive health benefits of this skill for thousands of years. The value of Ki breathing has long been widely acknowledged, and indeed seen by the vast majority of the Eastern people as an essential and integral part of everyday life.

In the West, however, acceptance and acknowledgement of Ki breathing has been slow and limited because of several factors. The major factor has been the lack of qualified teachers. Western orientation and reluctance to accept what has not been scientifically proven untill recently and the uninitiated Western mind's view of Ki breathing as some sort of mysticism has limited the acceptance of Ki breathing in the past. With new objective evidence of measurable benefits from Ki breathing, the acceptance in the West of Ki breathing is increasing. Doppler ultrasound flow studies of the central and peripheral blood circulation have shown up to 50% increases in peripheral blood flow after 20 minutes of Ki breathing. Better blood flow can give better oxygenation of the blood as it passes the lung and better oxygen supply to body thssues ressues resulting in healthier tissues.

Ki breathing can therefore help healthy people reach a higher degree of mental alertness and provide a greater degree of physical endurance and recuperative powers with quicker recovery from strenuous activity or injury. The improvement in blood flow increases the body's ability to deliver healing elements to body tissues. Ki breathing can also help lower the blood pressure by dilation of the peripheral vascular system and can help people with circulatory problems, e.g.hypertensive people and people with Diabetes mellitus or other diseases which tend to impair the vascular flow.
